Scholar Metrics — Quartiles & Indexing (Chrome extension)

Last updated: 14 August 2026

This extension collects no data, transmits no data, and makes no network requests of any kind. Every journal lookup is answered from data files bundled inside the extension package itself.

In one paragraph

Scholar Metrics reads the journal name printed under each result on Google Scholar, looks it up in a list of journals stored inside the extension, and draws a badge. That is the whole of it. Nothing is uploaded, because the extension has no ability to make network requests at all. The only things written to your computer are your own settings and a list of journal names already looked up.

Data we do not collect

Using the categories defined by the Chrome Web Store, the extension collects none of the following:

Data typeCollected?
Personally identifiable information (name, address, email, age, identification number)No
Health informationNo
Financial and payment informationNo
Authentication information (passwords, credentials, security questions, PINs)No
Personal communications (emails, texts, chat messages)No
Location (region, IP address, GPS coordinates)No
Web historyNo
User activity (clicks, mouse position, scroll, keystroke logging)No
Website content (text, images, sounds, files, hyperlinks)No

What is stored on your device

The extension requests one permission, storage, and uses it for two things. Neither leaves your device, and neither is accessible to the developer.

Which pages the extension can access

The extension runs only on Google Scholar addresses — scholar.google.com and its country domains such as scholar.google.com.vn. On those pages it reads the venue name printed beneath each result so it can look that journal up in its bundled data, and it inserts its own badges into the page.

It declares no host permissions for any other website, so it is technically incapable of reading or modifying any other page you visit. It does not read your search queries, your account, or your browsing history.

No network requests, no third parties

The extension contains no analytics, no telemetry, no trackers, no advertising, and no remotely hosted code. It does not contact the developer's servers, and it does not contact SCImago, Clarivate, Google, or any other third party. There is no networking code in the extension at all.

This can be verified from the extension's manifest, which declares the storage permission and nothing else, with no host permissions beyond Google Scholar itself.

Data sharing, sale, and use

Because no user data is collected, no user data is sold or transferred to third parties. No data is used or transferred for purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose, and none is used or transferred to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

Children

The extension is an academic research tool. It has no accounts, no sign-in, and no data collection, and it is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will be published on this page with an updated date. Any change that introduced data collection would require a new extension version and your explicit consent to the new permissions before it could take effect.
